What began as a tender seedling of international research cooperation in the summer of 2019 is increasingly solidifying. Establishing international research relationships and student exchange programs are top priorities for the development of the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt and the Faculty of Industrial Engineering. The  first joint publication arose from the collaboration between the southern Italian Technical University of Bari (Politechnico di Bari) and the Institute of Digital Engineering (IDEE) at the FHWS. Research is currently underway on digitalization topics.

As a further component of the cooperation, two students from TU Bari, Lucilla Dammaco and Francesca Ruospo spend the current semester at the FHWS to support the joint project of the two institutions as part of their master's theses. Initially, working in one of the FHWS laboratories was also planned - this is not possible due to the corona measures currently in effect at the university. The core of her work is the presentation of information through different technologies of augmented reality and how it is perceived by the user. "The personal contact, at least via video conference, is very important to me, so as not to neglect the technical progress, but also the social components," says Professor Dr. Jan Schmitt (Deputy Head of the IDEA). He is also certain:"At the moment we are able to successfully continue the project despite the difficult circumstances, and I am therefore certain that the cooperation will continue to deliver very positive results in the coming years! There is great enthusiasm on both sides for the scientific question and the multinational exchange. "

Further publications and the presentation of the research results at a conference are planned. Of course, only when circumstances allow it again.
