Shayani Fernando is a PhD researcher and practising Architect pursuing the challenges of the profession in creating
extraordinary spaces. Following her graduation she worked in various residential, commercial, educational and non-profit organisations and completed an Advanced Architectural degree in Design Technologies. She has been teaching at the University of Technology, University of Sydney and UNSW in architectural communications, design and theory. Her current research interests involve emerging technologies in automated construction to reform the value of craft within the Architectural profession.
She recently presented her co-authored papers 'Stereotomy of Wave Jointed Blocks; at the Rob|Arch2016 conference in Sydney; ‘Surveying Stereotomy’ at the ARCC 2015 conference in Chicago, USA and ‘Digital Stereotomy: The Rejuvenation of Stone Masonry’ at CAADFutures2015 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She was also selected for the Digital Stone Project in Tuscany, Italy; an artist residency in robotic sculpture of marble which was exhibited in the ‘Marble Codes’ exhibition and conference for one month in July 2015 at the Villa Strozzi, Florence
